As we step into October, our team at Joffe is preparing for an important event—especially those of us in California! We’re gearing up for the Great ShakeOut, an annual earthquake drill that brings millions of people together worldwide. This year’s ShakeOut is on October 17th at 10:17 a.m. (local time), and our Joffe responders will be practicing drills alongside our event and venue partners across the country.
Even if your venue isn’t located in an earthquake zone, participating in drills like these is a smart way to enhance your overall safety strategy. Earthquake preparedness offers lessons that apply to many emergency situations, making it a valuable exercise for reinforcing readiness across various scenarios.
Here are a few ways to examine your earthquake preparedness:
Earthquake-Specific Drills - Use the ShakeOut as an opportunity to review your venue’s emergency plans and evaluate any gaps in the written protocols.
Communication Plans - Ensure your mass notification systems are robust and redundant, ensuring everyone—guests included—can stay informed during any type of emergency.
Cross-Training Teams - Equip all staff with the skills to work together in multiple emergency scenarios, from earthquakes to large-scale evacuations.
Preparedness isn’t about just going through the motions of a drill, it’s about continually refining your systems to be ready for anything. If you have questions about earthquake safety, the Great ShakeOut, or optimizing your emergency training, we’re here to help.

Congratulations to Tiffani Abate, Event Safety Supervisor, Angels Stadium Employee of the Year and Joffe’s “Most Helpful Responder”
Last month, Joffe Responder Tiffani Abate was honored with the Angels Stadium Employee of the Year award, a true testament to her hard work and dedication to her role. Tiffani exemplifies going above and beyond, consistently ensuring that every guest at the stadium feels safe and valued. What makes Tiffani’s achievement even more special is that she was also recently named one of the three most helpful responders in our annual Joffe company survey. This means she received recognition from her peers, supervisors, and a client—all within the same time period. Congratulations, Tiffani!
